It is possible to sharpen drills for metal manually on an emery, however, in this case there is no guarantee that the sharpening will turn out to be of high quality. Therefore, it is best to use home-made tools and improvised tools that are found in almost every workshop - for example, an angle grinder.

The main stages of work

First of all, it is necessary to make a base for mounting the grinder, which will also act as a desktop. To do this, use a 20 mm thick plywood sheet that is suitable in size.

After that, we attach the angle grinder to the base using special vertical brackets with screws, thanks to which the grinder can be installed at the desired angle relative to the base. Using a protractor with a long ruler, set the required angle of inclination of the tool body (in this case 125 degrees).

In a rectangular plank of plywood, using a hand milling cutter, we select two "grooves" for drills at an angle of 118 and 130 degrees. On the back of the plank you need to choose a longitudinal groove under the guide rail, which is attached to the base. Thus, the template made of plywood for sharpening drills turned out to be movable.

The base itself is attached to the workbench using clamps or self-tapping screws. Set the drill bit for metal in the “socket” and sharpen it. This is done very quickly and accurately.
